Those who were there, were any of these sessions worth having on CD? I wasn't able to go to either the colloquium or the NPM event, but would be interested to know if any of the more serious sessions on organ, chant, or choral music would be worth buying.
I usually go, but didn't this year... But I'd never buy a CD of one of the lectures. There's something about attending lectures in person that makes them more worthwhile than listening to taped versions.
I didn't attend any of these that were recorded, so I couldn't say. Suffice it to say that I wasn't interested in many of them enough to attend the talks in the fist place.
I have know idea where you are in skills, Irishtenor, but the only ones that would be worth it for my money would be the practical ones---leading the congregation from the organ, eg. The plenary sessions were all with well published authors whose thoughts are readily available cheaper elsewhere. Anything that looks like promotional material probably was, as that is a big part of the conference. So just stick with practical looking ones.
I second PGA's endorsement of Michael Kemp's session. I only attended one - it was excellent. He's got a book available through GIA. I also agree with Kenneth.
Oh yes, I agree, too. I am definitely only interested in some of the more practical sessions. I was thinking that something like Jennifer Pascual's sessions might be worth checking out, Kemp's session, too, and I would be interested to hear what went down in Schaefer's session!
