Which writings (not sheet music, that's another list!) do you think are essential on the bookshelves of a Roman Rite DM?

    GIRM
    Sacrosanctum Concilium
    Spirit of the Liturgy
    SttL
    Olmsted's series Sing the Mass
    Tra le sollecitudini
    Musicale Sacrae

    Expand.

It's 2013 - no bookshelf is required. Put a folder on your desktop.

I had a DSM IV out on my desk. Stopped a lot of needless conversations dead in their tracks.

    An Ordo for your diocese

    The Ceremonial of Bishops

Peter Elliott's "Ceremonies of the Modern Roman Rite" and "Ceremonies of the Liturgical Year"

Fortescue's "Ceremonies of the Roman Rite Described," even if you don't have the EF, because it sheds essential light on what the reform was reforming from.

    "Documents on the Liturgy 1963-1975"

You should have read, "Why Catholics Can't Sing," by Thomas Day, but I'm not sure you need to keep it on your shelf.

Make sure you get the new edition, updated by Alcuin Reid, in light of Summorum Pontificum.

Should also have "The Musical Shape of the Liturgy" by our own Prof. Mahrt
