Relatively obscure verses to commonly known hymns
  • No! Are you going to supply them here??? Yes, you ARE???
  • M. Jackson Osborn,

I will try to post them soon. I've been out of computer range for several days -- and I thoroughly enjoyed being there.

Perhaps his swivel-chair got a flat tyre and he can't make it across the office?

  • Very funny: I was at a Father-Son camp, where some of the cell phones didn't work, and where, both for its good and mine, I didn't take my laptop. There was more than plenty to keep me busy.

I felt so good afterwards, that maybe I'll give up using the device in internet com boxes.

Before I do that, however, I wanted to include some of the verses of Lift High the Cross:

    (courtesy of the Adoremus Hymnal)

This is the sign which Satan's legions fear
And angels veil their faces to revere.

Each newborn soldier of the Crucified
Bears on his brow the seal of him who died.

Let every race and every language tell
Of him who saves our souls from death and hell.

  • As commonly sung, the "refrain" of "What Child Is This" is actually just the first four lines of verse 1. The corresponding lines in verses 2 and 3 are:

    2. ....Nails, spear, shall pierce Him through,
The Cross be borne, for me, for you.
Hail, Hail, the Word made flesh,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

    3. ....Raise, raise a song on high,
    The virgin sings her lullaby.
Joy, joy for Christ is born,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
