Can anyone suggest/recommend an English-language setting? I set it myself last night, but I wanted to see what other greater lights than I had come up with.
I don't know of a setting, but here's the English translation from the 1964 ed. Rev. Bede Babo 'The Roman Breviary: An Approved English Translation complete in one Volume from the official Text of the Breviarum Romanum authorized by the Holy See."
Behold a great priest, * who in his days pleased God, and was found just.
It also exists as the [spoken] Introit in the Missale Romanum (Common of Pastors, I. For a Pope or for a Bishop, 1st forumlary, 2nd option) in this form:
Ecce sacérdos magnus, qui in diébus suis plácuit Deo: ídeo iureiurándo fecit illum Dóminus créscere in plebem suam (T.P. allelúia). -Cf. Sir 50, 1; 44, 16.22
Translated in the current Roman Missal as:
Behold a great priest, who in his days pleased God; therefore, in accordance with his promise, the Lord gave him growth for the good of his people (E.T. alleluia). -Cf. Sir 50: 1; 44: 16, 22
