Director of Sacred Music wanted to build a fine Cathedral music program in an orthodox Roman Catholic environment in beautiful downtown Charlotte, NC. Familiarity with Roman Catholic liturgy and tradition of great choral music and chant are highly desirable; practicing Catholic preferred. Responsibilities include planning liturgical music and serving as organist for five weekend Masses, Divine Office, Holy Days, weddings and funerals, training and coordination of cantor program, and serving as choirmaster for the Cathedral Choir. Diocesan responsibilities involve assisting in planning and musical direction of major celebrations at the Cathedral as well as other locations in the diocese. In addition to enhancing the Cathedral choir (paid section leaders), the candidate will oversee the development of a Gregorian chant schola as well as a graded children’s choir. Opportunities exist for the development of a Cathedral Concert Series as well as other cultural events. Master’s degree required with a minimum of five years’ experience as a Roman Catholic church musician. Two manual, thirty one rank Zimmer pipe organ (1980).
