Ubi Caritas and God So Loved The World
  • Hello Everyone,

The choir that I am getting together for holy week this year is looking to have four or five soprano's, two alto's and three or four men. So it leaves me very limited in choral pieces that I can find. I'm really wanting to use Ubi Caritas for the washing of the feet. I know that the Durufle arrangement is to challenging for them. Is there another SAB arrangement of Ubi Caritas based on that gregorian chant that someone can let me know about. If another music director has come into the same issue and has done an SAB arrangement of Ubi Caritas, please message me letting me know.

Also, I am looking for a nice arrangement of God So Loved The World for Good Friday but yet again the Stainer arrangement is far to challenging for this group.

If you have any other suggestions for songs during the washing of the feet or Good Friday choral pieces, please let me know. Last year during the washing of the feet we used Dan Schutte's " As I have done for you" and I'm already tired of it one year later!!

    Thanks so much!
  • There is an SAB of the Stainer. As for Ubi, you might look at Ola Gjeilo's setting. I do not know if there is an SAB or not, though. Additionally, if you look on CPDL or a site like JW Pepper you should be able to sort and you may find something that is SAB. Rene Clausen has a nice setting of Create in me a clean heart which is SAB, as well.

Heath Morber has an outstanding motet for the Mandatum I've used for two years running. Use any Ubi for Offertory.

Proulx wrote a decent, easy, and harmonically interesting setting of Ubi. Published by GIA.

C.H Giffen has written - and I don't have it in front of me, but used it last year - "Let Thy Blood in Mercy Poured." It's free, and I liked it.

Have you tried singing the chant version of Ubi Caritas, alternating between men's and women's voices?
