You can't be young enough to start learning Gregorian chant. This is a wonderful picture taken during the papal Mass celebrated last Sunday in the Sistine Chapel at the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord:
Out of the mouths of babes. Once in the car, a gregorian chant was on the radio and my 3-year old exclaimed, "That sounds like church!" The thing is, he had never heard chant in the context of a church service before that.
When I tried introducing a complete chant Mass a while back, most of the adults tuned out and scowled. On the other had, I would swear that the children and infants in particular would perk up and chant along--as if it were somehow familiar to them.
Perhaps we can come up with a chant book for children to compete with a "Never Too Young" title from OCP!
