I have been asked to program the Christmas Eve Mass this year. I never programmed for this Mass before. Are there any suggestions for this Mass? Are the standard Carols acceptable or should it be left to pre-birth type songs (if that makes any sense).
The gospel for the Vigil Mass is definitely about the birth of Christ. (Matthew 1:1-25) I have been fortunate for a few years, that the school music teacher does a guitar mass with some children for the vigil. That means I don't have to come in until 11:00 p.m. for the Midnight Mass and pre-mass concert. I am not there for the vigil, but they do Christmas carols and that seems appropriate.
We have three Vigil Masses here. I'm just doing Carols, chanted Psalm/Alleluia/communio, and some decent organ repertoire and will hope after that I have energy for ad Missam in Nocte.

this year its two vigils, one at the four seasons, then back to the church for lessons and carols at 9:15, night mass at 10 and then a wassail sing along to wrap it up
