A voice cries out in the desert: prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.

(The PDF has two other motets, in addition to "Vox Clamantis.")

Whenever anyone asks for easy polyphony or a good Advent piece, this gets recommended. It is three-part, fairly short, mostly homo-rhythmic.

My little choir did it this morning. I recommend it, and am writing this post so that next time someone is searching, they'll see it outside of just one long list of other things. It's definitely a good choice for smaller choirs and those just starting to explore polyphony and Renaissance material.
  • I second the recommendation, Adam. We did the "Vox clamantis" after the Offertory chant for Advent II, and did the "Erunt signa" last week (especially appropriate for Advent I (Year C), since it's from the Gospel of Luke).

The Giaches de Wert motet of the same title is somewhat more difficult, but an inspired composition, too.
