Palestrina Matins Responsory for Advent - St. Paul's, London version- Has anyone ever used this as..
  • a processional for the First Sunday of Advent?
Is it appropriate for that if you have a choir that can do a decent job?

  • What I usually do is have the choir sing the Responsory as a prelude and use Come Thou Redeemer of the Earth as the entrance.

  • Rob? Hey! Hi. Thanks. Sounds good. Are you doing it this Sunday?

  • This year we are using it on the Fourth Sunday of Advent. I have used it on the First Sunday before.
  • I've used it on Advent III before the Hymn in Procession, and sometimes on Advent IV, too, if I have the singers in town to do it. We put the first version on YouTube, actually; would that we had the resources of Saint Paul's Cathedral!

  • We did actually pull it off with two men (one very good tenor) and 5 women. It was extremely effective! (we rehearsed it a lot so that everyone could find their starting pitches and the different sections.) That seemed to be the most difficult part. Cheers, Mark!
