It's been a big challenge to find substitutes for either our Saturday or Sunday Masses. I've combed the usual sources - local AGO, professional websites - and I seem to come up with either people who can play but can't sing, usually Protestants with a big learning curve for our Catholic Masses, or people with nice voices who don't know what the pedalboard is for and give me a quizzical look when I mention 'Vidi Aquam', usually Catholic. I understand most really good musicians are sitting on their own organ benches, but can anyone give me some clues as to where to smoke out the occasional retired organist, etc? We've actually added Cantors for all but one Mass and still have trouble finding someone competent to sit on the bench.
One problem might be the stipend - Pastor pays $110 per Mass. If this is very much off the norm, comments from this forum might be helpful to me in suggesting a raise, too.
