Greetings all! My Christmas plans have suddenly fallen through. Not having anywhere in particular to be this Christmastide, I solicit your advice: where in Europe should one go for the best liturgy in nocte nativitatis Domini? I would like to arrive at this place before Vespers Dec. 24 and leave after Lauds Dec. 26—For the rest I am open to suggestions. Thanks for your help!
You could go to Vienna and hear the Mozart Solemn Verspers on Christmas Eve at St. Stephen's Cathedral, then return on Christmas morning for the "Mass in Time of War" (Paukenmesse) of Haydn and then proceed to the Augustinerkirche on December 26 for the Haydn "Lord Nelson Mass."
