II Vespers for Immaculate Conception
  • Would anyone be able to direct me to where I might find a order for II Vespers of the Immaculate Conception? Either a booklet with musical notes, or a general Vespers template (with notes) into which I could plug the propers?

Basically, I am looking for resources for cantoring a weekly Vespers at Saint Paul University (Ottawa, Canada), and we have very little to work with at present. The next service will be the Immaculate Conception, and I would like to get things off on the right foot...

A mix of English and Latin, in either the old rite or the reformed rite would be fine--although in our context the new rite would probably go over better :)

    Many thanks!

For the OF, all is found in Latin in the 2009 Antiphonale Romanum II on p. 686.

    Basically:

Deus in adjutorium... (or in English: God, come to my assistance...)

Hymn: Praeclara custos (1983 Liber Hymnarius p. 475)
(English translation likely available in 2007 Mundelein Psalter)

    Antiphon 1:
Tota pulchra es Maria (1934 Antiphonale Monasticum p. 763)

    Psalm 122 (121)
    (Gloria Patri)
    (repeat Antiphon)

    Antiphon 2:
Tu gloria Ierusalem (1934 Antiphonale Monasticum p. 764)

    Psalm 127 (126)
    (Gloria Patri)
    (repeat Antiphon)

    Antiphon 3:
    Vestimentum tuum (1934 Antiphonale Monasticum p. 764)

    Canticle: Ephesians 1: 3-10
    (Gloria Patri)
    (repeat Antiphon)

    Reading: Romans 5: 20-21

    Short Responsory
In hoc cognovi * Quoniam voluisti me.
    V. Quoniam non gaudebit inimicus meus super me.
    V. Gloria Patri...

    (or in English:)
By this I know * You have chosen me.
    V. You have not let my enemy triumph over me.
    V. Glory to the Father...

Magnificat Antiphon (according to the Ordo Cantus Officii):
Hodie egressa est virga (1934 Antiphonale Monasticum p. 767)

    Magnificat
    (Gloria Patri)
    (repeat Antiphon)

    Intercessions
(see a copy of the Liturgy of the Hours or Liturgia Horarum)

    Pater Noster / Our Father

Collect of the Immaculate Conception (*not* preceeded by "Oremus" / "Let us pray")

Closing Blessing (different formulas depending on if led by lay person or priest/deacon)

    For an online resource,
    You might try

    divineoffice.org.

There you will find the English texts to the Vespers.

It is quite easy to copy and paste the texs from the website, and paste them into a word or publisher document to make a worship aide.
(I am not sure about copyright issues though)

As far as musical settings, I would think that there is much advice to be searched for here on this site.
However, I like the Mundelien Psalter, which works very well.
