Dear Folks, pardon my out-of-ordinary discussion ... but because we received the donation of a 1973, solid-silver M3 Gemeinhardt flute, I need to find a general value of this instrument for a letter of donation for taxes. A general ballpark is appreciated.
Closed/Open hole, C/B foot, offset/straight G key arrangement? Has anyone played it with chromatic scales to check if the pads and mechanisms all function? Gemeinharts are mid range, generally not considered professional level instruments, but if it's thin-wall, solid silver open, B foot, could have a sleeper, Bob.
The retail price new on it appears to be $2,049. Music stores will discount it down to as little as $1,100...so the used price would probably be $850-900 in a reputable store in very good condition. eBay and deep discount sellers would be lower, as Jeffrey as said.
IRS may not balk at $950, since anything under $1,000 does not even require a receipt...so teh reciept would be useful.
