Chanted Gospels for the Novus Ordo

    I am a priest in the UK hoping to introduce chanted Gospels more regularly at the Novus Ordo Mass in the parish. The main problem I have is that I need the notation to do this properly and with confidence!!!

    I have searched the internet for suitable materials. The best I have come across is from Priory Press - Evangelia Cantata. Whilst this is a wonderful resource the translation used is not the same one as we use in the UK. Here we have the Jerusalem Bible for the lectionary.

    Does anyone know of any sources that have done a similar work using the Jerusalem version? Or someone could suggest ways around the problem.

    My sense is that this doesn't exist. Can anyone confirm or deny?

    I suppose you could write them out yourself using the simple or solemn tones at ICEL.

    I made a little experiment using the typesetting software Gregorio, and got this result. I'm not sure I've followed the rules properly for the simple tone, but have a look:

    If implemented correctly, the ICEL tones are be very dignified. Clemens linked to them above.

    We had sung gospels at all the holy week Masses/services. Truly beautiful.

    Speaking of that: Does anyone know if there is a published book of the gospels complete with notation for all the major (sunday and feastday) gospels? Somehow, I doubt there is, but it would be a great resource. Right now, if you want to sing the gospel you only have two options, both of which aren't always practical:

    a) Know the tone very well, and sing from notation-less text.
    b) Notate the whole gospel every week, print it, and either attach it to the inside of the book of the gospels (for aesthetics) or put it in a wimpy binder.

    Does anyone know if this exists?

    Yeah, but.

    Does that notated Gospel book use the appropriate translation for Fr.'s country?

    But yeah, Richard: Ben asked if there were such a book and I provided the link. Father Francis already knows that such does not yet exist for the Jerusalem Bible translation.

    By the way, did I apply the ICEL simple tone correctly in that PDF I posted?

    More experienced people correct me if I'm wrong, but I think one mistake in line 4, and other than that, it's all good.

    On line four, you're missing the final do. You have this:

    Jesus stood there (do)
    and (la)
    cried (do)
    out, (ti)

    I'm pretty sure it should go like this:
    Jesus stood (do)
    there (la)
    and (do)
    cried (ti)
    out, (do)

    But other than the issue with the one mediant, It looks good to me!
