Besides "Attende Domine" and "Parce Domine", can anyone recommend some Latin hymns for the Extraordinary Form that can be sung during Septuagesima and Lent?
I have a copy of both the Liber Hymnarius and Cantus Selecti, but before looking through them I thought I'd get feedback from people here as to anything in there which they like.
And yes, we are singing the Propers - we only have Missae Cantatae, but our priest likes us to sing hymns as well, and we will do anything to make him happy.
Stabat Mater towards the end of Lent. Media Vita - not really a hymn - toward Septuagesima. Penitential Psalms. Peccantem me quotidie (Office of the Dead). Alleluia Dulce Carmen before Septuagesima.
Annus Sanctus (Orby Shipley's collection of translations) lists quite a few Septuagesima hymns, and so on through Lent. Heavy on the Freiburg and Paris Breviaries.
