Sextons and graveyard workers are, indeed, traditionally supposed to be the same faith as the cemetery they're working in. Indeed, Catholic cemetery folks are supposed to be trustworthy Catholics of good character, especially because they work with the dead faithful on consecrated ground.
  • So how do you explain, in the same state as this cemetery lies, an overwhelming number of protestant choir directors and organists?

It would seem to be a double standard, requiring a grave digger with shovel in hand to be Catholic and refusing to interview and hire Catholics.

choir director position is not as grave
  • Suppose they could be more specific, requiring applicants to be cradle Catholics, as in "Cradle to...."
