750+ family church in East Oakland seeks experienced and motivated director of music.
Director of Music Ministries
Purpose: To serve the church by developing and administering an effective, engaging, and appropriate Catholic liturgical music program by means of careful coordination with volunteers, church staff, and committees.
Responsibilities:
-Provide vocal leadership and accompaniment at two Sunday liturgies and one Saturday vigil liturgy as well as other services including, but not limited to, Holy Days of Obligation, special school events, and other church events.
-Recruit, rehearse, and direct a volunteer choir, cantors, and musicians.
-Plan and implement liturgical services in coordination with the liturgy committee and pastor.
-Contract professional musicians for special services.
-Maintain and plan limited budget.
-Supervise (directly or indirectly) music ministries in the school, the Vietnamese community, and Latino community.
Qualifications:
-BA or BM in music with concentrations in liturgy, piano, organ, choral conducting, and/or voice, or equivalent experience.
-Extensive experience in Catholic liturgical music, especially as music director. 3+ years experience highly preferred.
-Excellent keyboard, vocal, and conducting skills.
-Commitment to Catholic ideals of service and liturgy (affiliation with the Catholic church is not required).
-Fluency in Spanish and/or Vietnamese a plus.
-Excellent organization, communication, and planning skills.
-Ability to work well with committee members, clergy, and parishioners.
Compensation:
-Salaried position, diocesan scale.
