The Cathedral of Saint John Berchmans in Shreveport, LA seeks a full time Associate Director of Music. Applicants should have at least a Bachelors Degree in Music, and superior organ-playing skills, including both classical organ repertoire as well ability to accompany choral literature and congregational singing. The Associate Director of Music will serve as a primary accompanist to the Cathedral choir and must also have the ability to oversee and conduct a graded children’s choir program at a Cathedral standard. The ideal candidate will be a proven music educator as there may be minimal teaching responsibility in Saint John’s Cathedral School. In the Cathedral parish, preference is given to Gregorian chant, sacred polyphony, standard choral literature, and developing the ability of the choir and congregation to sing the liturgical music of the Roman Catholic Church. Applicants must be familiar with the Roman Catholic liturgy and have experience working with capable volunteers in a parish setting, as well as other professional musicians. The current Organ is 1991 Visser-Rowland. However, Parkey Organ Builders has been selected to be build the new Cathedral instrument of three manuals and 54 ranks. Contact Cathedral for information.
