Is there a “standard” corpus of incipit melodies for polyphonic Ordinary settings?
The choir I direct is singing Byrd 5-voice for All Saints (at Our Lady of Walsingham in Houston, TX). This particular setting is in “C minor” (in our edition) and begins on a G for the Gloria.
Do I just choose an incipit from the Kyriale that is in modes 1-4 and seems to fit someone’s voice well?
