I have two pieces I'd like our chant choir to sing: Rorate Caeli (first verse) and Alma Redemptoris. I have two opportunities to sing one of them: before Mass, or at Communion. Which way around would you recommend? I'm inclined to sing Alma before Mass and Rorate at Communion.
Offertory works but after Mass is the traditional place. Rorate Caeli at communion is a good choice.
We’ll do that for the Rorate Mass after the proper. Otherwise I’m adding it to the opening of benediction on Sundays, during the pause when the servers set the altar.
Thank you MatthewRoth. In our church after Sunday Mass, the organist plays two verses of a hymn. When the organist is finished there are very few left to hear anything else we might sing. Nothing stopping us, of course, it would be just for our pleasure.
I see. That would be a nice idea, if there was time for that. Priest says the concluding rite, the organ starts the hymn, and he has turned and left in the time of the first verse. Once he has left the sanctuary, the people start to leave.
