DESCRIPTION
St. Andrew Catholic Church in Old Town Pasadena, California a traditional Catholic parish, is seeking a highly skilled and professional associate organist to provide musical accompaniment and support the liturgical life of the parish. The associate organist works under the direction of the director of music ministries (hereafter DMM) to deliver high-quality sacred music that aligns with the parish's liturgical traditions.

MASSES AND REMUNERATION

• Sunday 9:30 am children’s choir Mass (warmup 8:30 am) $200 per Mass
• Sunday 12:30 pm Mass with Cappella Musica (warmup 11:45 am) $250 per Mass
• Cappella Musica rehearsal Wednesday 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm, $200
• First call substitute for special Masses, namely funerals, weddings, quinceaños, and anniversary Masses, $250 per Mass
• Choir season runs 34 weeks and Masses with cantor alone (including Masses at the time of the normal choir Masses 9:30 am and 12:30pm) pay $175.00
• Extra Masses with cantor when DMM is on summer vacation, approximately six weekends: Saturday 5:00 pm, Sunday 11:00 am, 12:30 pm, 2:00 pm, and 5:00 pm, $175 per Mass with cantor

REPERTOIRE
Repertoire is traditional Catholic choral music centering on Gregorian chant Propers, Renaissance part-music (a.k.a. “Renaissance polyphony”), and Catholic choral music of various eras, as well as suitable choral repertoire from other eras and denominations, particularly that of the Anglican patrimony. So-called “contemporary” music (pop/folk/rock, etc.) is not used. Congregational music includes Gregorian chant Ordinaries (used exclusively at all Masses, both English and Spanish) and traditional hymnody drawn from the parish hymnal. The associate organist is expected to provide preludes and postludes appropriate to the season. Improvisational skills are very welcome.

All music for congregations (Spanish- and English-language Masses), choirs, and rehearsals are planned in August for the entire following choral season. Music is available in PDF format when taken from the public domain; physical copies of music (or legal digital copies) of music under copyright are available in late August, so that there is ample time for preparation.

INSTRUMENTS
Current: Austin (1927)/Murray Harris (1898)/Hutchings (1894), III-34 pipe organ in gallery; 1989 Allen custom digital organ (former flagship installation); both are in the process of being replaced by a 1927 and 1928 E.M. Skinner organ, which will be installed in three stages, with the first stage (52 ranks) being installed summer 2027, with a total of 112 ranks when complete. There is a piano in the church which is only used at concerts of two local universities but never at Mass. Rehearsal room has a Steinway A piano.
