Choral Music Library Organization

    Hi all,

    We just repainted my choir room. In order to prep the walls, we had to take down all of the shelves which was where we stored our choral octavos. I'm considering completely reorganizing the entire library of music and was curious how other people organize their choral octavos. Do you organize it alphabetically by title, by liturgical season, something else? We previously had just used this system below:

    This is a nice system but I'm considering tweaking it so that each "letter" represents a particular voicing. Unison, 2 part equal, 2-part mixed choir, 3 part equal, 3 part mixed, 4 part, etc...

    Looking forward to hearing what others do.

    I am thinking of putting arrangements together. That is, a motet might be in different keys/slightly different editions, or voiced differently. And that all goes together in order by composer. Anything that could be for benediction is together in the same eay by composer, hymns go together by season/theme (it’s going to be tricky as I add more hymns), and Mass settings are divided between choral and orchestral. Again, same thing as for motets: composers together. Big orchestral works also go with Masses for want of anything better.

    However I’m considering working on this in a modified way, and by the way the Choir Director Corner site is great. Love his warmups.
