• Have you ever done Star Carol with only children ages 8-14? I only have two boys with dropped voices at that top age range. About 40 kids total. Which arrangement would you use - the unison, SSA, or SATB? I bought the whole orchestral booklet from Oxford, but now I'm looking at it thinking I'm not sure how to make it work best for us. We will have piano and probably cello maybe violin. The kids have not done a lot of parts singing yet. This is only our second year together, but they are good and eager singers. There are some really competent girls ages 9-13 in the group. We are technically called the "Chant Club". We'll also be doing the Batastini Gaudete with chime tones, the Alma Redemptoris Mater acapella (it's the next antiphon I'll teach them so they know them all), Night of Silence/Silent Night, the Jr. Chant Club will sing Tu Scendi & While Shepherds Watch Their Flocks, the older girls will sing Gilpin's O Magnum Mysterium in two parts, and we'll all end with congregational Angels from the Realms (it's a tradition now that it's the second year lol I'll probably teach an alto line this year to differentiate it. Thoughts? Ideas? Everyone loved last year's program and I'm feeling a little anxious that we won't be able to top it, simple as it was.
