    Hello all!

We're doing an orchestral Mass ordinary for Pentecost, and I'm looking to get my money's worth out of some extraordinary musicians. Are there any prelude pieces that you would suggest for Pentecost?

We've got 2 each of violin I, violin II, viola, and cello, and a trumpet and organist.

O Come Creator Spirit Come, Spirit Seeking Light & Beauty, Holy Spirit Lord of Light, O Breathe On Me, O Breath of God, Veni Creator Spiritus,

Non-Pentecost related but appropriate for orchestra: O Mary of Graces
    Ave Verum - Mozart
    Cor Dulce Cor Amabile

The Wikipedia page for Pentecost has a section on music. Perhaps a movement from a Bach cantata could work?

This Biber Sonata is precisely for your instrumental ensemble. The frequent change of affetti might be challenging, though, if you do not have more than one rehearsal and if the instrumentalists are unaccustomed to this spectacular style.

Or, if you prefer something more mainstream, Telemann is always great, for example his trumpet concert TWV 51:D7, which is, too, exactly for your instrument combination.
