Orchestral Preludes for Pentecost

    Hello all!

    We're doing an orchestral Mass ordinary for Pentecost, and I'm looking to get my money's worth out of some extraordinary musicians. Are there any prelude pieces that you would suggest for Pentecost?

    We've got 2 each of violin I, violin II, viola, and cello, and a trumpet and organist.

    The Wikipedia page for Pentecost has a section on music. Perhaps a movement from a Bach cantata could work?

    This Biber Sonata is precisely for your instrumental ensemble. The frequent change of affetti might be challenging, though, if you do not have more than one rehearsal and if the instrumentalists are unaccustomed to this spectacular style.
