Choirs in outer space

Has anyone faced the above (acoustical) problem in the configuration of their lofts?
I have seen it time and time again where there is too much height above the choir and inadequate reflective surfaces for the sound - such that it just leaves the loft and seemingly goes nowhere.
More to the point, has anyone found any aesthetically acceptable solutions? -
Not sure if these are sufficiently aesthetically appealing for you, but this these these panels were at every school choir performance I was in to assist with terrible gymnasium acoustics.
