I am increasingly wondering why the 2 terminations in the Ave are different? La,Ti on Jesus; and Do,Re on Amen. It has the appearance of a mistake, like a misprint of the neume. And if a mistake, it has been replicated everywhere.
What say yall?
Edit- I see #114 of Cantus Selecti has the same terminations (but reversed in order) for the tone so I suppose I am overthinking things.
The truth is that the Angelus setting is quite varied and one of those things which often changes according to religious congregation, I made a booklet with the known melodies often used in Italy, Ill see if I can find it. I never quite understood either why the terminations were never consistent but one professor I had in Italy said it was likely to accommodate the accents and the fact that the melody of the angelus is more of a modern invention.
