Which mass ordinary goes with Christ the King Sunday
  • I am trying to see what mass ordinary adheres to Christ the King Sunday. Is there a website that tells us masses that go which season?

    Thank you,

    Christopher

    Messe Royale de Henri du Mont.

    Ity is found in French editions of the Liber Usualis, or here below, https://societyofstbede.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/kyriale-supplement.pdf
    Gregobase has this as well.

    Well

    It’s a solemn feast. So II or III. But there are few* hard and fast rules. I do like the Dumont masses (particularly the Mass of the 6e ton).

    The kyriale in the Liber Usualis is a good guide but you have to adjust it to the NO language for the rank of feasts.

  • Missæ VII Kylie Rex Splendens is traditionally used for such feasts.

    Well, maybe. It CAN be used, but there’s no requirement, and having looked at a bunch of ordines and house lists, V–VII are hardly used at all.

    Messe Royale de Henri du Mont.

    Ity is found in French editions of the Liber Usualis...

    A version of the first Messe Royale more faithful to Du Mont's intentions than squarenotes is attached. Schola Sainte Cecile used to have the others on their website too, but I can't locate them.

    I managed to find du Mont's Masses in the 2nd and 6th tones via the Schole Sainte-Cecile website and the wayback machine - attached.

    The accompanying article says:
    Cette partition est extraite du Propre de Paris de 1925, édition établie sur la première édition originale de 1669, et suivant fidèlement le rythme et les altérations voulues par le compositeur.

    Does anyone know if Propre de Paris de 1925 is available online?

    @GerardH Here is the 1928 Supplement, https://baseliturgie.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/liber-usualis-paris-1928.pdf

    I notice that Schole Sainte-Cecile use the modern notation version found in the back of some French Liber Usualis. Although most have the square note supplement. We do have an earlier source, A.D. 1701,

    This has 5 settings rather than the 3 usually found in the Liber supplement.

    Mass IV could be suitable:

  • Related: Is there a source that correlates Mass of Paul VI ordinaries with the variety of celebrations? I know that some of the Kyriale Masses are labeled for their use, but are the rest to be applied as seen fit, or is there an "official" suggestion?

    Well, what does the 1974 Graduale recommend? And more importantly what does Solesmes recommend? (The Vatican Basilica list is good as far as it goes, but they’ll use Mass IV and especially with the pope VIII a lot when I think that they should probably use II or just do all polyphony.)

    @tomjaw, that's what I am looking for - no luck yet.

    The document you posted is interesting though - @chonak, perhaps suitable for inclusion on the CMAA regional chant supplements list?

    @GeraldH

    I have a whole file of settings of the Du Mont Masses, but I see I only have the chant notation. I will keep a look out, as I have seen plenty in modern notation.
