Wondering if anyone, particularly theologically-minded hymn writers, could look over the attached text, based on the introit text of the requiem Mass (and can be set to the ST. COLUMBA and ST. ANNE tunes), and make sure all looks correct. Thank you!

Eternal rest grant unto them, and let perpetual light
Upon them shine, O Lord, we pray, Forever in Thy sight.

O Lord, in Thy great mercy, And through our prayers, bestow
To them the keys of paradise; And comfort all below.

May all the faithful souls find rest, And live in peace at last,
With Thee and with Thy saints all 'round, And cares of this world passed.

Eternal rest grant unto them, and let perpetual light
Upon them shine, O Lord, we pray, Forever in Thy sight.
  • I vote for St Anne -
The first half of line one of the second stanza is a syllable short.
I suggest 'O Lord, who in thy mercy great, And through our prayers, bestow'

In the last line of stanza three the word 'this' is awkward on its high accent.
Perhaps a more pleasing arrangement would work better -
maybe something like 'And all Earth's cares are passed'?
or 'And this world's cares are passed.'?

You know this already exists at Antiphon Renewal . com?
Also there is the version by Tietze.

I use the AR text to Picardy. Works very nicely.

That said, I'm not against another's attempt to do something similar with their own poetry.
