Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology requests applications for the position of Assistant Director of Music. This is a full-time position with benefits.
The ideal candidate is a strong organist and accompanist with at least a Bachelor of Music degree in organ or a related field. A Master of Music degree is preferred. Conducting experience is strongly preferred.
Duties:
1. The Assistant Director of Music will accompany the following services on the organ or piano: - Monday Lauds (8 AM) - Monday Mass (11:30 AM) - Tuesday Lauds (8 AM) - Tuesday Exposition, Vespers, and Benediction (4 PM, 5 PM, ~5:20 PM) - Wednesday Mass (8 AM) - Wednesday Vespers (5 PM) - Friday Lauds (8 AM) - Friday Mass (11:30 AM) - Sunday Office of Readings, Lauds, Mass (9 AM, ~9:20 AM, 10:30 AM) - Sunday Vespers II, Exposition, Compline, and Benediction (5PM, 6PM, 7PM, ~7:20PM)
2. The Assistant Director of Music will rehearse and coach cantors 15 minutes before the above services.
3. The Assistant Director of Music will accompany Choral Rehearsals on Mondays at 4 PM.
4. The Assistant Director of Music will have the OPPORTUNITY to accept additional responsibilities, including conducting, singing, programming, composing, teaching, and solo performance, if they wish.
Obligations are confined to the academic year: the 2025-2026 academic calendar is available on the institution's website for reference. There is NO Christmas, Easter, or summer requirement.
Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology is located in Saint Meinrad, IN, and is attached to Saint Meinrad Archabbey, the monks of which manage the school. Saint Meinrad IN is an idyllic rural community of less than a thousand, but is a one hour drive from Louisville KY and a two hour drive from Bloomington IN. If your goal is to have peace, quiet, and privacy, but within an hour drive of a Southwest Airlines hub, this might be of interest. Saint Meinrad possesses pipe organs by Goulding & Wood and Gabriel Kney, a microtonal digital organ, and two pianos.
The anticipated start date is June of 2026. The summer of 2026 is an opportunity, with pay, to become situated.
