Sr. Mary Gisela (SSND) Mass Music pdf?

    Hello!
    I noticed on the White List of Mass settings that there is a SSA Mass for Our Lady by Sr. Mary Gisela(SSND). My parish is right next door to the historic building the School Sisters formerly occupied. Is anyone in possession of that Mass setting? I thought I would check here and see if anyone had it handy before I start checking around in the Archdiocese. I called over to the SSND and spoke to their archivist and they do not have any Mass settings by Sr Gisela in their library.

    Hello--
    I checked my extensive collection of Masses (well over 500) and do not have any by Sister Mary Gisela. Likewise, I checked the book, AMERICAN MASSES AND REQUIEMS by David P. DeVenney and none my Sister Gisella are listed.

    On the other hand, you might be interested in knowing that Sister Gisella did publish a great deal of Catholic music commencing in the 1930s and continuing through the 1950s. These include the widely used Mount Mary Hymnal and also the Mount Mary Motet book. Neither of these include Mass settings; however, they both contain a great deal of music which I'm sure could be used at your Mass.

    The piece you are looking for could have been privately published. Unfortunately, like you experienced, I found many of the religious orders of sisters in communities where members published Catholic music long ago, failed to keep copies of said music for future generations. It's a sad situation.

    There is one place you might check and that is the CMAA Caecilia Archives. The Caecilia featured a lot of music in their magazine over the years. You could also look through the Choirmaster Archive on CMAA but there would be less of a chance finding it there as well.

    I may have struck "pay dirt" In the July-August 1932 issue Vol. 59 - No.7 of the Caecilia Magazine on page 221 you will find the Mass of Our Lady by Sister Gisela, SSND. I extracted the pages for you. There is also in this same issue a review of the Mass by Dr. James Reilly on page 220. There are numerous articles and other hymns by Sister Gisela spread throughout the Caecilia Magazines.

    Oh, Wow! Amazing. Thank you! I had gone down a rabbit hole in the Caecilia Magazine that evening you mentioned it and didn't find it. (Although, I did save some other nice things). I am thrilled to come on after being on a trip and see that you struck 'pay dirt'. Thanks again!
