London Oratory Hymn Tunes (1870)
  • Any ideas where I could get a copy of the above? Doing much surfing I reckon it is published by Novello, Ewer & Co. .

I would get in touch with the London Oratory, they should have a copy in their Library.

I do have a hard copy of the 1870 Oratory Hymn-Tunes, with the full arrangements by William Pitts. However, it is 155 years old and is, therefore, quite fragile. So, I'm sorry but I do not feel comfortable scanning it because I feel it would further deteriorate the book. Perhaps you can find a copy through Google books. This is a very important book in the history of English Catholic hymnody. Many of the hymns contained therein later found their way into the Canadian-American St. Basil's Hymnal and the English Westminster Hymnal and many others. Good luck in locating a copy!

There is a copy of the Oratory Hymn Tunes by Wm. Pitts on Google books that I came across about five years ago. It is the 1875 edition according to Google.
