I attended Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Church, Newton, MA for a moving Holy Thursday Mass (1962 Missal). Unfortunately, I misplaced the program, which had the propers sung along with two works by Palestrina and one by Heinrich Isaac. (Edit: the schola chanted Mass VIII)

In contrast, at a (Novus Ordo) church where I will fill in at the bench this weekend, a decision has been made to cut the Sequence from the Mass. I pointed out the obligatory nature of this text and received sympathetic agreement from equally powerless musicians. This assumed option-itis by clergy and laity is out of control.

The TLM was packed, which I rarely see at the NO these days.

Happy Easter to all. Here is my newly revised setting of "At the Lamb's High Feast" - similar to the original setting I made 20 years ago. It's scored for 4-part brass, handbells, organ, and choir with final stanza descant. In the absence of handbells for section 2 (if performed), the handbell part may be played on the organ (it is already doubled in the horn part).

Even if you don’t formally introduce it, congregations can really quickly get the recto tono down pat.

I put out something and I was really pleased with how it turned out in terms of the congregation picking it up. Now if only the pitch wouldn’t drop so far…

@JacobFlaherty, I would encourage you to keep the mediant and the full stop. Cf Fontgombault. Congregations are capable of quite a bit of nuance if we push them.
