An organist is needed on a weekly basis to play for the 9am Sunday English Mass at Sacred Heart Church in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, served by the Fathers of the Cincinnati Oratory.
This position comes open at the beginning of December. Masses are Sundays and Christmas Day, all at 9am.
The church maintains a traditional music program with solid hymnody, Propers, and Latin settings of the Ordinary of the Mass.
The ideal candidate would be a proficient service-player, capable of singing while playing, and comfortable with traditional hymnody, psalmody, Ordinaries from the Kyriale Romanum, and chanting the Proper of the Mass in English & Latin settings (simple settings of the Proper would be acceptable), as well as presenting suitable organ repertoire during the liturgy.
The organist would be paid on a per-service basis, and would have practice privileges on the large and historic 1895 Felgemaker organ in a historic space with a beautiful acoustic.
In the past, this Mass has fielded a volunteer choir (although many of the members no longer attend), and a candidate with interest in building a choir would be welcome.
The candidate could either plan the music for his or her own liturgies (submitted in a timely way for inclusion in the printed weekly leaflet prepared by the Oratory Director of Music, and subject to a year of review for approval), or music lists / scores could be completely provided, depending on the candidate's preferences.
To inquire or apply, feel free to PM me here, or to E-mail me, Sean Connolly, Director of Sacred Music at the Cincinnati Oratory, at sconnolly AT oldstmarys.org
Candidates should include a brief letter of introduction and resume for a formal application, as well as any recordings of interest, and promising candidates will be invited to audition.
