Church of All Saints (Roman Catholic) 435 4th Street, N.E., Minneapolis, MN 55413 POSITION DESCRIPTION DIRECTOR OF SACRED MUSIC
Church of All Saints, a vibrant and growing parish of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (since 2013) located in Northeast Minneapolis, seeks a Director of Sacred Music. The parish celebrates the full spectrum of the traditional Latin Roman Rite, including Matins at Triduum and Christmas, and occasionally Vespers and other hours of the Divine Office. Other significant features of the current parish music program include: ● Experienced choir comprised of about 35 parishioners who sing for Sunday High Mass and major solemnities. ● Seasoned men’s schola who have sung full propers from the Liber Usualis for Sunday Masses and most high feast days for the last 7 years, led by a paid assistant director who doubles as a men’s section leader. ● The choir also includes a significant number of Filiae Laboris Mariae Sisters who are experienced singers. ● The parish runs a homeschool co-op program with multiple children’s choirs who sing for several Friday masses. ● Investiture and profession ceremonies for our religious Sisters (3-4 times per year). ● Many more weddings than funerals.
Duties and Responsibilities ● Program and lead the choir for Sunday high Masses. ● Program and lead the choir for first or second class feast high Masses during the week (1-3 per month). ● Serve as organist for all accompanied services. Ability to improvise and knowledge of the Latin liturgy is crucial. ● Cantor and lead sacred music at Friday masses for the homeschool co-op and teach choir classes to co-op students during the school year. ● Meet and maintain compliance with the Archdiocesan Safe Environments policies.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements ● While undergraduate and graduate degrees in Sacred Music are desirable, we will also consider colloquium/conference attendance, Ward Method or other certifications, performance experience, work experience, and liturgical knowledge in assessing a candidate’s fitness for the role. ● Demonstrated proficiency in Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony. ● Superior abilities as an organist, with demonstrated facility in executing solo organ repertoire, accompanying choral music, and leading occasional congregational singing. ● Strong written and verbal communication skills. ● An initiator, leader, and committed to the spiritual growth of the parish and nourishment of the congregation through sacred music. ● Working knowledge of the liturgical year according to the 1962 Calendar of the Roman Catholic Church. ● Candidates must be Roman Catholic, committed to modeling the values of the Roman Catholic Church, and faithful to Christ and the magisterium.
