Community Church, Congregational 611 Heliotrope, Corona del Mar, CA 92625 is seeking a Director of Music Ministries
Community Church, Congregational is in the heart of the seaside village of Corona del Mar, California. Traditional in worship style and venue, and progressive in theology, we are an open and affirming church. Our music ranges from traditional/classical sacred to contemporary works and is greatly valued by our congregation of around 120 members. The choir is comprised of fifteen highly dedicated members including five professional soloist/section leaders. Our 10:00 AM Sunday services are live-streamed and recorded on YouTube.

Position Summary The Director of Music Ministries is directly responsible for all aspects of the church’s music and serves as a resource to support, foster, and coordinate the musical and spiritual life of the congregation of Community Church, Congregational (CCC).
Job Responsibilities Develop a vision and annual goals for CCC’s music ministries in collaboration with the Pastor and the Music Committee.
Ongoing Program Responsibilities • Plan and coordinate music for all worship services, seasonal services and other special services including congregational hymns, choral/solo/instrumental music; and communicate the musical selections for church publications/bulletins
• Seek opportunities to integrate congregational participation into worship
• Supervise and support all music staff, volunteer musicians, and tech staff
• Work closely with the Pastor and Music Committee in an advisory role on all matters relating to worship and liturgy, including regular staff meetings, Music Committee meetings, and any other relevant meetings (Church Council, Personnel, etc.)
• Participate in development of an annual budget for the music ministries.
• A performance review will be conducted at 90 days after hiring and annually by the Pastor and Personnel Committee.
Choral Music Responsibilities • Conduct/accompany the Chancel Choir and serve as its Musical Director; conduct weekly Sunday choir rehearsals: 9am warmup rehearsal prior to 10am service and 11:20am-12:35pm principal rehearsal following post-worship coffee hour. No midweek rehearsal. The Chancel Choir is on hiatus the months of July and August. One soloist featured in those summer services each week.
• Direct/accompany small youth ensembles/soloists that perform on an occasional basis.
Accompaniment Responsibilities – Piano and Organ • Play/conduct during Sunday worship, seasonal services, and any other special music events.
• High skill levels in both piano and organ performance
• Direct and accompany church performing ensembles, principally the Chancel Choir, at weekly rehearsals/services as well as instrumental ensembles for special services
• Coordinate upkeep and maintenance of the church’s instruments, including the sanctuary Allen Renaissance 380 three-manual organ and Yamaha S-6 grand piano
• Play for church weddings and memorial services/funerals. The church hosts an average of 12-15 weddings/memorials per year. The current additional pay is $350 per ceremony/service.
Job Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree or higher in music
• Demonstrate excellent leadership, organizational and communication skills
• Relevant music education, training and/or professional experience
• Experience directing/selecting choral music for worship.
• Three+ years church music leadership experience, preferred.
• Strong musical skills relevant to the position, including advanced skills in piano and organ performance and accompaniment, choral conducting
• Commitment to the liturgical tradition of worship with a broad knowledge of sacred music repertoire, both traditional and contemporary
• Ability to work as a supportive and collaborative team member demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and discretion.
