  • I see that you smoke a pipe.
Of all forms of smoking, a pipe is surely the most enjoyable.
The aromatic smoke is even appreciated by non smokers.
Many years ago I smoked a pipe and there was a certain blend by Dunhills that I thought was most pleasing to one's nostrils.
One can form a bond with a good pipe.

...been smoking Mac Barens for 50 years... the two there, Virgina No 1 and Latakia are IMHO the best on the planet.

  • My grandfather (maternal) smoked a pipe, and I have very fond memories.

I don't smoke (something about my very weak lungs) but forgive the ignorant question: is there such a thing as bad pipe tobacco?

Well, there is cheap, or not well cured, and I suppose there is “bad” leaf. Usually pipe tobacco is not inhaled directly through the stem but more as an aromatic.

My dear departed father smoked a pipe. Thank you for this discussion which brought back a sensory memory of him. Cutty Sark was his tobacco, which I am sure was a modest brand given all his financial responsiblities raising his 7 children.
