HYMN OF THE MONTH - SEPTEMBER: Mother of Mercy
  • September has arrived and for my HYMN OF THE MONTH series, I've chosen one of my favorite hymns, a hymn well suited for the month of September and a beautiful hymn the Feast of Our Lady of Mercy on September 24. This hymn was written by a Catholic priest and was widely used throughout England, Ireland, and America. Please take a few moments to read about this beloved Catholic priest and his contributions to Catholic hymnody.

  • What a delightful (and formerly unknown to me) text! I shall be using this soon. We end every mass with the seasonal Marian antiphon, but in ordinary time, we do the salve Regina only every other week since the season is so long. I try to loop in other marian hymns if I don’t have something that is overtly related to the day’s readings. (This week is Maria, Maria! As translated by Nihil and harmonized by me.)
