St. Timothy parish is seeking tenor and bass section leaders for an adult choir which sings at the weekly 10:45AM Mass on Sundays, as well as for other select liturgies throughout the liturgical year. The section leader will act both as a leader within and an advocate for the section, be a soloist for choral and service music, and will also be part of a smaller group within the choir which will prepare more difficult choral music.
The bulk of the repertoire is Latin Gregorian chant, so candidates must either be familiar with Gregorian chant notation or demonstrate aptitude and willingness to learn it. Other repertoire includes traditional hymns and service music (both metric and plainsong), English chant, and sacred polyphony from all periods in Latin and English.
Section leaders must be willing to sing for Christmas Eve Masses, for several liturgies during Holy Week up to and including Easter Sunday, and for special rehearsals (besides the regular Thursday rehearsals) leading up to these. He may also be called upon as a solo cantor for other parish Masses or for weddings and funerals, as opportunities arise. For an audition, candidates must prepare a sacred aria of their choice as well as a few items provided in advance by the church.
Candidates, if hired, will become employees of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington and must be willing to undergo a background check and child protection training mandated by the Diocese. Interested candidates should send a resume or CV along with at least two professional references to:
