    Our parish has been singing the Heritage Mass Gloria and is now looking for some English language alternatives.

    What are your favorites, please?

    But there is nothing above Gregorian Glorias, my favorite being probably Fons Bonitatis, along with that of Henry Dumont's "Missa Regia" (I know, it's not exactly "Gregorian chant", but whatever).

    I like Richard J Clark's settings; one wise and prudent touch of a long-practiced parish-based composer that I like is that, while he provides for a refrain, the refrain approach can be dropped (and RJC would drop) once a congregation has had a few weeks to become familiar with the whole setting, though it might still be used on days like Christmas and Easter when there are a lot of ... visitors ... who would likely be unfamiliar with the setting:

    Missa Simplex and New Plainsong Mass are two of my favourite English Ordinaries, and they are eminently singable by an average congregation.

    Tooting my own horn as well, but I like my Mass for Our Lady of Walsingham, which matches Divine Worship: The Missal in text but for which I have a Roman Missal sister setting.

    There is an English Kyriale (2010 translation) put together by St. Meinrad; I think that Fr. Columba Kelly did the adaptations. It is available in print from Lulu and, IIRC, as a free download from the St. Meinrad website.

    Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

    BTW, our parish uses the NO mass but we do use a fair amount of Latin. The pastor requested an English Gloria for the congregation to learn to sing...but the Latin suggestion are welcome too.

    The Roman Missal/ICEL Chant Gloria isn't great but it's very sound and good for introducing chant to a congregation.

    Carroll Thomas Andrews’ Gloria from A New Mass for Congregations is pretty much in the same realm as Alstott’s Gloria from Heritage Mass. It’s actually my favorite of the metrical Glorias out there. It has a good blending of text and music; I love the major key in the first and last third of the text with the minor key in the middle while we ask for Christ’s mercy. Very nice and singable for a congregation that isn’t entirely accustomed to chant.

    Proulx’s Missa Simplex Gloria is very nice and easy to sing. The John Lee/Proulx Antiphonal Gloria is also a very easy and repetitive setting that should lend itself nicely to most congregations.

    Someone mentioned this already, but Dr. Latona’s Gloria from Mass in Honor of the Immaculate Conception is a nice piece often sung in alternation. It’s a chant-like setting that is a tad more advanced than the other chant-like ones I’ve mentioned, but it’s pretty easy to learn.

    We use Michæl Olbash’s Mass in Honor of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, which was shared by CCW a few years back. I chose it because it is un-metered and “chant-esq”.

    The revision of John Lee's Congregational Mass is what I use in place of the one in the Roman Missal whenever I'm otherwise using the Missal chants. I also really like the Gloria from Br. O'Connor's Siena Chant Mass (although I think "chant Mass" is a bit of a misnomer) - really the whole Mass.

    We are actually using Phillip Neri at my church right now. It is a pretty decent setting, though the triplets in the Gloria are a little odd. They actually throw off the trained musicians more than the average person in the pew.

    One side question: was the entirety of A New Mass for Congregations redone for the new translation, or just the Gloria?

If you’re in Minnesota or something and have a congregation with a hereditary ability and desire to sing in harmony, it would be fabulous. Not sure how good it would be with only organ/cantor.

    I am in favor of settings of the Gloria/Glory to God where the melodic/harmonic movement of the first section culminates in "O God, Almighty Father" in a way that does not simply drool without release into "Lord, Jesus Christ".

    Speaking strictly of English Mass settings, our MD composed a rather good Mass setting in SATB.

    This is the Gloria from it. It’s better live with more robust organ, especially in the pedal board.

    I recently introduced the revised Pope Paul VI with success. Although not previously in the parish repertoire, I think enough people knew it in the old translation that it was easy to pick up.

    Among my favorites are the Michael Lynch Gloria that used to be in OCP...it's refrain based but catchy and majestic, but not revised. Also, though I've never used, New Plainsong, St. Cecilia (a beautiful setting!), and probably my favorite, Intercession (which sadly was not revised), all by David Hurd.

    I refuse to do Creation since the revision. With the exception of an occasional wedding or funeral, I have chosen to let that setting die.

    I've found musicians have a much easier time with this whole Ordinary when they realize that it's entirely in 4/4 despite having no barlines.
