My apologies if it seems like the beating of a dead horse, but in the process of doing some cleaning, I came across the materials from a "Discovery Weekend" that my wife and I had to attend before our wedding lo, these 31 years ago.
I don't know what happens these days, but they replaced the "Pre-Cana" classes with this "get in touch with your feelings for each other" type weekend. I won't deny there was some benefit to it, but the real gem is the booklet for the Mass that we had while we were there.
You'll get an idea of the landscape in the late 70's.
Quotation from Walt Whitman
Quotation from Teilhard de Chardin
Greeting
Rite of Forgiveness
Opening Prayer
First Reading from "The Prophet" by Khalil Gibran
Second Reading from I Corinthians
Gospel Reading from John
etc. (the rest of the booklet is straightforward).
The only music listed for the entire thing is "Weave me the Sunshine", for which it gives 5 verses and helpfully advises after each one: chorus 3 times. I've thankfully blocked most of that weekend completely out of my memory, except for one incident in which one of the couples asked why the texts and quotations didn't have copyright notices printed with them.
