• Indeed, he does. There's more black on the page than white.

  • I think a moral is that organists and organ builders love to tinker and "improve" on what predecessors have done.
'twould seem organ builders are modernists, by nature! lol.

  • Serviam, what about Dupre B Major Prelude and Fugue? It is both a fugue and a barn burner.

  • A good Toccata will be so much more than a "barn burner", though several popular ones unfortunately rarely rise beyond that level.

Speaking of Martin Pasi: Pasi Op. 28 has just been installed in St. George's Episcopal Church, Arlington, Virginia. It's already getting high marks.

    You also could say,

Reger has too many (different) notes and Mozart has too many (same) notes.

The B major is one of my all-time favorite works (along with the G minor fugue). I played it on my senior recital and had a marvelous time doing so. I kick myself that I ever let it slip from my fingers (and feet) as it's a beast to relearn. I usually pull out the toccata for Easter.
  • It is one of my favorites too. I'm not good enough to play it yet, though. It is my big, long-term organ goal.
