The focus of this position is to provide a professional level of musicianship and choral support to the music program in service to the Liturgy. This will include a repertoire of traditional Sacred Music including Gregorian Chant, English plainsong, Sacred Polyphony in various languages, Choral Anthems and Congregational Hymnody.
Responsibilities:
• Section leader of the choir (or small ensemble) at both the Sunday 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Masses and also 1 weekly rehearsal on Thursdays from 7-8:30 p.m. (Currently the 9am ensemble is made up of 3 staff singers and 3 volunteers. The 11am choir is made up of 3 staff singers and about 12-15 volunteers.)
• Availability for Christmas and Holy Week/Easter is essential. Other Solemnities may also be possible as needed and as agreed upon.
• Additional opportunities to sing for weddings, funerals etc.
Qualifications:
• Read both standard and Gregorian musical notation • Competent Sight-reader • Excellent intonation • Have a clear, resonant and pleasing vocal quality • Experience in singing polyphony/chant as well as traditional hymnody • Blending with while also leading a choral section of volunteer choristers • Ability to study/learn/practice music on your own
