    I came across the Mode I version of Tantum Ergo, which I hadn't previously heard.

    Is there a particular time that this would have been traditionally sung?

    At seminary, they would occasionally sing this version at Benediction on Thursday. Music for this service is typically the cantor’s choice, and they would change from week to week. So, no particular season; mainly it depended on how adventurous of a cantor was scheduled that week!

    In this particular community, Chris, anything outside of the usual Mode III or Webbe settings are considered “adventurous”.
