    We are a vibrant, growing parish seeking a full-time Director of Music who is a strong servant leader with the ability to work creatively in a fast-paced environment.

    The Directory of Music Ministry is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing a music ministry across the parish to include leadership of liturgical music and the development and direction of multiple choirs in English and Spanish. The position operates under general supervision with wide latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative.

    Duties include, but are not limited to:
    • All duties as assigned.
    • Must be able to work closely with the Director of Liturgy and the Associate Pastor in charge of Liturgy
    • The Director of Music Ministries will report directly to the Pastor and Chief of Staff.
    • Be an effective and collaborative member of the Saint William staff
    • Candidate must be available to conduct for Feasts and Solemnities, such as Christmas Eve, Christmas, Holy Week, Easter Vigil, and Easter Sunday, and other decided by pastor.
    • Conduct three Masses, rehearsal, and rehearse an hour before each Mass
    • Select music and provide helpful resources (i.e. MIDIs, CDs, videos) to choir members to speed up the learning process when learning new and/or challenging songs (SATB)
    • Schedule and hire musicians to cover special liturgies or events
    • Oversee all choirs
    • Assist and codirect Children’s Choir when needed
    • Develop and train cantors
    • Check-up and schedule maintenance for all instruments around campus
    • General assistance with choirs: including Spanish Choirs, as needed, for services and rehearsals, providing help with various tasks relating to the Music Ministry, such as cataloging music, setting choir pit, music selections, etc.
    • Recruit and retain choir members
    • Collaborate with the Office of Worship for diocesan events
    • Develop and oversee music budget
    • Order music octavos and equipment
    • Write POs for musicians
    • Supervise inventory and music reporting for keeping licenses up to date
    • Create and design worship aids for the weekly liturgies and special celebrations (e.g. Holy Week and Christmas, Taizé, and Evening Prayer)
    • Prepare and setup for festival choir/diocesan events
    • Schedule cantors (including self) for all weddings, funerals, quinceañeras
    • Must be able to attend staff and liturgy meetings
    • Must be able to participate in leadership training, continuing education events, workshops, and renewals and professional growth opportunities
    • Daily 30-minute prayer time.

    Skills
    • Excellent orchestral and choral conducting
    • Excellent sight-reading and communication skills
    • Excellent vocal technique (choral and solo)
    • Must be able to teach keyboard, guitar, bass guitar, and percussion
    • Must be able to transcribe/arrange music for diverse instruments or voices
    • Must be able to do transpositions
    • Experience with computerized sound equipment
    • Knowledge of Catholic Liturgy
    • Knowledge of Catholic documents, publishers, and other resources
    • Enthusiasm for working with musical groups of various age levels
    • Interest in collaborating with other ministries within the church
    • Must attend EIM certification within our diocese
    • 5 years of experience directing and/or working with musicians in a church setting

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education and Trainings:
    • Bachelor’s degree in music from an accredited American college or university (or equivalent in a foreign country).

    Experience:
    • Four (4) years or more off Catholic music work related experience.

    Language:
    • English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing).
    • Spanish (conversing, reading, and writing). Preferred

    Catholic Requirement:
    • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.

    Licenses/Certifications:
    • Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
    • Member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
    • Valid Texas driver’s license.
