Responsorial- September 15th
  • Does anyone have a nice Responsorial Psalm for Our Lady of Sorrows. We will have Perpetual Vows in our Monastery that day. Thank you.

    Ps 31:2 and 3b, 3cd-4, 5-6, 15-16, 20

    R/ Save me O Lord, in your kindness

    In you, O LORD, I take refuge;
    let me never be put to shame.
    In your justice rescue me,
    make haste to deliver me!

    Be my rock of refuge,
    a stronghold to give me safety.
    You are my rock and my fortress;
    for your name's sake you will lead and guide me.

    You will free me from the snare they set for me,
    for you are my refuge.
    Into your hands I commend my spirit;
    you will redeem me, O LORD, O faithful God.
    .
    But my trust is in you, O LORD,
    I say, "You are my God."
    In your hands is my destiny; rescue me
    from the clutches of my enemies and my persecutors.

    How great is your goodness, O LORD,
    which you have in store for those who fear you,
    And which, toward those who take refuge in you,
    you show in the sight of the children of men.

    Here is a setting for SATB choir (cantor or trebles voices on odd verses alternating with SATB on the even verses).

    I can make a version for cantor if you would find it useful.

    CPDL has a Category:Responsorial_Psalms where you can sometimes find items like this by Brian Marble. If not for the response Orioles, I'd go with Lassus, myself.

    Sister, can you tell us what voicing you typically use? Does your monastery like to try four parts, are three better? Etc.

  • Normally three parts are the best (Soprano (Descant is sometimes possible), Alto, Mezzo- occasionally we have tried bass but we would really have to practice)
