Daughter of a Mighty Father

    Is there anyone on the forum able to translate German. The melody for the hymn Daughter of a Mighty Father is found in the ENGELSHARFE GESANGBUCH, 1866 which I was able to find on Google, https://www.google.com/books/edition/Engelsharfe/tb08AAAAcAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1

    I am interested in the attribution to the composer. Does the cross symbol indicate a priest or monk?

    In the hymn text I can make out "O Maria" but that's all. I don't think the lyrics are Daughter of a Mighty Father but a different hymn.

    Which melody are we talking about? There are 500 tunes in this book and the lyric as you say is not the same.

    I think the marking over the score in the older book is saying that the poem and the musical composition are by Georg Schöller, and that he died in 1863. The last word before the cross-mark is not clear to me, but perhaps other readers can fill in that gap.

    I think it is “Benef.” , which I suspect strongly means beneficio, by the good will or permission of.

    Google seems to know nothing of Herr Pf. Schöller.

    I looked through the collection of hymns to see if I could find a clearer print of that word before the cross but it is only used on that hymn.

    Diese Zusammenstellung besorgte der Schöllnacher Pfarrer Georg Schöller. Passauer Eigengut, das sich seit über 150 Jahre - ohne Überlieferung in Diözesangesangbüchern - gehalten hat, ist das Lied O Maria, Gnadenvolle. Es wurde als Bundeslied für die damalige Jugendarbeit von dem Priester Georg Schöller gedichtet und komponiert. Schöller wurde 1813 in Obernzell geboren und 1836 zum Priester geweiht. Er wurde nie Pfarrer, sondern kam nur auf kleine Hilfspriesterstellen, zuletzt 1854 [Heinz-Walter Schmitz Aus der Geschichte des deutschen Kirchenliedes Seite 17.]
