Parish: Saint Patrick Catholic Parish, Janesville, WI
    Position: Director of Music
    Employment Type: Part-time or Full-time
Payment Type: Salaried, dependent on hours and qualifications

The Director of Music is responsible for the coordination, preparation, and direction of music at all liturgies as well as organ or keyboard accompaniment at three of the four masses. We have a rich liturgical diversity including English, Spanish, and Traditional Latin Masses. We currently use the Breaking Bread Hymnal at the English masses and Flor y Canto at the Spanish mass and however we are researching other options in order to provide a more orthodox form of worship at these liturgies. At the Traditional Latin Mass we use Fr. Rossini’s “Proper of the Mass.” We have a Wicks Organ Opus 5607, 1977 with ten ranks and two manuals as well as a Clavinova and upright piano.

Responsibilities per mass are the following: direction, rehearsal, conducting, and organ accompaniment for an English-speaking choir of 4-6 people for the two masses in English on Saturday evening and Sunday at 9am. The direction, support, and coordination of the volunteer schola and organist who currently assist at the Traditional Latin Mass at 10:30am on Sunday, filling in as needed. Complete knowledge of the form and liturgy of the Traditional Latin Mass is not a requirement for this position. The direction, rehearsal, conducting, and keyboard/guitar accompaniment for the Spanish-speaking choir of 5-10 people for the noon Spanish Mass. In addition, the Director of Music will be responsible for coordinating, supporting, playing, and accompanying music at all Solemnities. Additional responsibilities include Lessons & Carols for Christmas/Advent and Tenebrae in Lent. The Director of Music has responsibility over the coordination of music for funerals and weddings and can receive additional fees of $150 for organ playing and $150 for being that cantor at each liturgy.

Our parish is currently experiencing a period of growth and all choirs have room for expansion as there is a multitude of untapped talent in the parish.

Additional responsibilities could include individual music lessons for parishioners and homeschooling families, accompaniment for local high schools, and involvement at the Janesville Performing Arts Center, which could all be part of the salary and ultimately make this a full-time position.

All applications including resume, cover letter, and recording of organ and/or choir direction can be sent to admin@saintpatrickofjanesville.org.
