    Holy Rosary and St Stephens are merging urban mission parishes in Minneapolis, MN that serve a vibrant, predominantly Latino immigrant community. The Music Director will help provide an environment of beauty, order, and sacred space to a community that faces many challenges outside our church walls. In addition to coordinating music for liturgies, the director will also teach music to children in our Ándale after school program and soon to be formed Institute of Sacred Music. The successful candidate will be trained to play and teach organ, piano, and choral singing. Experience in guitar and Gregorian chant also preferred. Openness to varied styles of liturgical music and the cultural background and traditions of our Latino community is necessary. Spanish language skills are helpful, but not required.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Acts as primary organist for 3 to 4 Masses per weekend between two parish campuses. Cover holy days and seasonal liturgies as needed.
    Plans music and coordinates paid or volunteer musicians/cantors for all weekend liturgies in English and Spanish (2 English Masses and 4 Spanish Masses). Exact weekend duties may vary based on skills and interest.
    Coordinate replacement musicians for specific absences. Submit requisition and paperwork required for payment of “on call” musicians;
    Coordinate music for weddings and funerals.
    Provides instruction in organ, piano, and singing/Gregorian chant to children in the Ándale after school program and Instituto de Música Sagrada (Sacred Music Institute)
    Work in coordination with the Director of the Instituto de Música Sagrada to develop curriculum for relevant components of program.
    Ensures compliance with all applicable copyright and licensing laws;
    Oversees maintenance of musical instruments, equipment, printed music, and sound system;
    Has a working knowledge of parish sound system;
    Secondary Responsibilities

    Supports core parish activities such as liturgies, festivals, traditional cultural celebrations, and other events as needed.
    Actively participates in parish and staff meetings as needed and in professional enrichment and continuing education programs.
    Job Qualifications
    1. Bachelors in Music. Masters preferred, in the fields of organ or piano performance, choral conducting, or music education. 2. Training and experience in teaching organ, piano, and voice required. Ability to play and teach guitar and chant preferred. 3. Experience teaching children and youth, and love of doing so. 4. Demonstrate thorough knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith. 5. Openness to, experience with, or ability to learn varied styles of liturgical music including organ-based hymnody, sacred choral music, Gregorian chant, guitar-based music in Spanish, and contemporary praise and worship. 6. Ability to effectively supervise and support volunteers and contract musicians. 7. Exhibit a professional demeanor in dealing with other parish employees, volunteers, and parishioners. 8. Spanish language helpful, but not required. 9. Ability to satisfactorily pass a criminal background check.
